In 2010 The Houston Art Car Klub added an additional award for the member who comes to the aid of anyone in need, at any time. The person who drops what they are doing to help out another person in our vast art car community of friends, fixes a flat tire, supplies you with a trailer, rebuilds all or part of anything under the hood of your car, holds your hand in bad times... you get the idea... is who this award celebrates. While the Brian Bryan Memorial Art Car Award recognizes the person who "walks the walk and talks the talk of a Houston art car artist all year", this award specifically targets that person who is the most helpful in the art car community. Jeff Towns was that kind of person. This award does not celebrate the way Jeff Towns died, it celebrates the way the man lived. If you knew Jeff Towns, you miss Jeff Towns. (Click here to read more about Jeff Towns on this website)
These two awards within the Klub now
separate the person who would be considered the most helpful to the
person who epitomizes the lifestyle of an art car artist on a daily
basis. Ben Gibson made the trophy for this award. There is a
small glass container inside that houses some of Jeff Towns' ashes.
When you shake the award, you can hear Jeff inside. The award is not
quite finished, but Ben will get it done within the year. I guess it's
a great thing that Ben was the first winner of this award in 2010 and
that gave him the time he needs to finish making it! Congratulations Ben Gibson 2010!
During Art Car Weekend Houston 2011, a very deserving Isaac Cohen received this trophy. Isaac comes
to the rescue of so many people when asked... and even when he's not
asked. Congratulations Isaac!
